Artists Statement
I create mixed media artworks for domestic interiors,
commercial premises, corporate and public buildings.
The seductive, tactile materials of Textiles contrast
beautifully to the often impersonal modern technology
and architecture of today’s buildings.
A piece of textile artwork should enhance its environment
and contrast with the stark lines of modern interiors.
In the same way that old tapestries and rugs provided
warmth and comfort as well as decoration to homes of the past
A necessary relief to the stark cold walls of ancient buildings, both practical and beautiful
I believe the medium of Textiles appeals to a wider
audience through its use of familiar materials and techniques.
It is a more accessible art form where the viewer can take something from the encounter and relate it to their own experience.
I want my audience to trust their own interpretation of the work
Make them feel safe, warm, familiar and comforted.
Provide them with a basis for appreciation of beauty,
inspiration, spiritual reflection, contemplation.
Textiles connect us with our roots - they ground us - comfort us.
Evoke familiar memories through their touch and smell.
It is a comforting medium both tactile and homely.

My work takes 2 clear directions.
Richly Embroidered Surfaces using the Textile Design techniques of layering and building up colour and Texture.
Abstract, Impressionist and Collaged
My Surface Design background leads me to create new
fabrics and surfaces layering and building colour and texture.
Closely related to the art of Collage I love collecting fabric scraps and found objects - my little treasures and memories.

Minimal Contemporary Textures
A form of stump work using unbleached cotton to form abstract relief surfaces like snow covered landscapes or objects coated in icing
Reminiscent of crisp starched cotton sheets with hidden treasures beneath.
